| I
once knew a blind man who could see with more than eyes
He
could see your pretensions
He
could see through all your lies
He
knew when you had gone astray
He
knew when you'd done wrong
It
doesn't take much to know the way
Until
the signposts have all gone
I
stopped to take a drink of wine with an old man by the road
The
day was hot, the miles were long, I bore a heavy load
He
looked at me and shook his head
And
pointed to the sky
I
know, the old man said, that tomorrow I will die
To
save some time, I dug a hole and laid him in his grave
I
carved a cross
And
said some lies
About
how he'd been so brave
The
night grew near, so I said farewell and went upon my way
The
clouds were dark and threatening
The
sky a sombre grey
But
I cared not for the cold and rain
Nor
the north winds icy blow
I
took my rest in a country lane
Resting
in the warmth of the snow
