Brian Fowler Superczar Interview: Interview by William J. Hill
William J: I appreciate the opportunity for you to allow me to interview you Brian and discuss you and Master Gabes new album "The Stress Signal.

Brian Fowler: Thanks Jeff, We just finished Mastering the cd out last week at Larry Rose studio's in Phenix City Alabama. Larry was a big help, He is a veteran musician and engineer, He does alot of livework w/ Keith Austin who played Gtr w/ Dr. Hook. I opened a show for Dr. Hook in 1994 w/ Gary Allen. I will never forget that night, Ray Sawyer would mix everyone backstage rum and coke, he was a nice guy and very fun to do a show with.
William J: What is this album about I enjoyed Jones Ave. Folk Art alot, Why the change why isn't this a Jones Ave. Record?
Brian Fowler: Jones Ave is a different animal, Jones Ave. is a band I have had since 1997, It is very psychedelic and folk oriented. When my tenure w/ San Francisco Blue was over Me and John Joiner decided to keep what we were doing going.Idiots Vision is a folk album w/ tinges of Rock and Psychedelia, Folk Art was a bridge from that. It's basically the follow up to Idiots from Me and Joiner and Gabe. Superczar is another Bridge and another proggression.Master Gabe and Myself wanted to write a new album and expand on some things we had been working on. Joiner was not involved on this project, he has been busy with his band "Nightrain" at the moment. Superczar is more song oriented and I do more gtr and play all the bass on it, Very little Mandolin on the album, It's definitely not a prominent instrument as it was on "Idiots" Or "Folk Art". Superczar is a heavier album, There are 2 ballad type songs the rest is kinda hard. 1000 times is kinda of a nod to Bob Calvert type punk and quirky stuff. It fits in w/ the others but is a natural evolution. I hope that is a element about the music that will help it, I want to do different stuff, so It isn't formatted stale bread.
William J. Hill: I really liked "Ricochets" alot escpecially all the psychedelia in the end, What are you talking about??
Brian Fowler: Ricochets is 8 minutes of insanity and psychedelia, It needed to have something along that lines, Its for the Folks who liked the "Circus Clown" or "Mcveigh" heaviness. Me and Gabe wrote this song in 1997, We wrote this and reality arroused the same day. Reality ended up on "Idiots" Ricochets on here. We are just going w/ the flow on end, soul coughing and chanting.
William J. Hill: Table Monkeys, is a unforgettable track, What is that About??
Brian Fowler: Its about the folks who treat themselves to the delicacy of a Monkey's brain and think there is some form of beauty to it or a elevation in class. I don't know but Chicken sounds better to me. That song you just have to hear it. It's very heavy and gothic and dark and It's my favorite track along w/ Superczar
. William J. Hill: Kiss I send, Tell me about that, That is the most mainstream thing you have done.
Brian Fowler: Kiss I send is a Holland penned tune, He said that was the only " Love" song he will ever write. I believe him. What is the mainstream anyway? Marilyn Manson? It's hard to tell anymore, We just write songs and try and record them.
William J. Hill: Who played on this album other than you and Master Gabe?
Brian Fowler: The only guests on it is Jimmy Holland on trumpet on "Kiss I Send" The rest is Me and Master Gabe playing all the instruments. I basically got the strings, He has all the keys and percussion.
William J. Hill: Why are your cd's Imports from Scotland, and your website in Scotland?
Brian Fowler: Stuart Hamilton runs Zeitgeist Distribution and a E-zine that keeps you informed on all types of music. He runs the San Francisco Blue site w/ Bob Harvey and they help me w/ My music keeping the word out.We are releasing true indie music to the entire world. What we do does not sound like others and we are trying to develop our own hub out there on the WWW. Its a global market and economy and Stuart is helping keep true Indie music alive and available.
William J. Hill: What is the Melodic Marvels Compilation?
Brian Fowler: It is a independent Record label in Atlanta Georgia, that has a target of College Radio and the CMJ charts. Last I heard the single"House of No Windows" has received some airplay and in rotation at some colleges around the U.S. There were 2000 pressed and most are sold out. Zeitgeist has 10 or so left, The compilation has 20 songs from a myriad of different bands. Worth it's price for sure. We may be on more compilations and releases late on this year..
William J. Hill: You finished 2 full length albums this year. "Folk Art" and "The Stress Signal" What is next on the agenda.
Brian Fowler: Live work. I recorded those 2 albums to get something to play live that folks can have a cd of as well. We do very little San Francisco Blue stuff live, I always do a couple to give a nod to Bob and history, but I want to stand on the strength of what has been done lately. Master Gabe and I are building the live show. The focus is on Superczar right now and where we can take that. Folk Art is a good psychedelic record, Defintely armchair music, but some of it live would be difficult. Superczar we can play it live and it sounds like the record.
William J. Hill: Brian, Thanks for the opportunity to interview you and the cd copy of "The Stress Signal" I really like this record, Table monkeys will haunt me for now on, You all are a tad nuts, but Your music is good.
Brian Fowler: I appreciate you doing this and I believe in this music, this album is very listenable and song oriented. It will be a while before we do another album, so I hope folks can sink there teeth into these records and like the music... William J. Hill:
